Chandigarh is a union territory in India. It is capital of two states Punjab and Haryana. Name of this city is derived from the ancient temple, Chandi Mandir. The city is the first planned city of India and is one of the tourist places in India.
After the partition, India was split into India and Pakistan. Lahore the capital of Punjab was merged in Pakistan. So working on several plans, it was decided to create a planned city, as a capital for Punjab. An American architect planner Albert Mayer and French architect and planner Le Corbusier designed Chandigarh.
Chandigarh: The Beautiful City
Tourism in India is motivated due to the beautiful places in India. Chandigarh is one of them.
While designing the city population initially considered was 1,50,000 and then the city was planned focusing on the population, 5,00,000. The city is divided into sectors, i.e. the residential sector, industrial sector and leisure sector. The sectors are identical measuring 800m X 1200m. All the necessities such as market, schools and colleges, hospitals etc. are taken care of for each sector. The remarkable thing about Chandigarh is that the city is embraced with a green belt approx. 16 km wide. It automatically puts constraint to the haywire development in the vicinity.
